2. Assumption of Risk & Release of Liability

Participation takes place in a wild, unpredictable environment. You assume all risks including slips, falls, insect bites, reactions to plants, and wildlife encounters. By signing, you release and hold harmless Oropel Lodge, its owners Daniel and Nina Solis, employees, and guides from any liability for injury or loss.

3. Force Majeure & Weather Considerations

Oropel Lodge is not responsible for disruptions due to weather or natural events. Activities may be delayed or canceled if unsafe conditions arise.

4. Terrain & Physical Fitness

Trails may be muddy, wet, or steep. Participants must be able to walk unassisted for up to two hours in humid conditions.

5. Footwear Requirement

Closed-toe hiking shoes or rubber boots are required. Improper footwear increases risk of injury.

6. Bug Repellent & Environmental Responsibility

Use natural repellents and wear long sleeves/pants. Oropel Lodge promotes eco-friendly practices to protect sensitive species.

7. Wildlife Protection & Conduct

Touching or disturbing wildlife or plants is strictly prohibited by Costa Rican law. Violation may result in removal without refund.

a. Dog Walking Special Considerations

This is a self-guided, independent activity and participation is completely voluntary. Oropel Lodge commits to participants to provide only healthy and well-behaved, non-aggressive animals for this opportunity. By participating, you agree to the following:

  • You understand that walking with animals outdoors carries natural risks, including possible bites, scratches, slips, falls, or encounters with wildlife or other dogs.

  • You accept full responsibility for your own safety and for the dog’s well-being while in your care.

  • The dog must remain on a leash at all times and may not enter the jungle, tall grasses, or off-trail areas. Please avoid any interaction with other dogs as well.

  • You agree to provide water if the dog is out for a while, avoid overexertion, and return the dog immediately if it seems tired or unwell.

  • You release the property owners, staff, and management from any liability for injuries, damages, or losses that may occur to yourself, others, or the dog, including dog bites or fights between animals.

  • You agree to notify staff right away if the dog becomes injured or distressed, and you won’t attempt medical treatment yourself.

8. Equipment & Personal Responsibility

Bring your own water and flashlight for night hikes. Walking sticks available. Oropel Lodge is not liable for lost or damaged personal items.

9. Guide Responsibilities & Property Safety

Guides will prioritize safety but Oropel Lodge is not liable for acts of third parties or unforeseen events.
