If you are interested in participating in any of the following local excursions, we'll gladly handle all the arrangements at no extra cost. Please note excursions are suitable for beginners unless otherwise noted; and and some excursions may be weather-permitting. All payments are owed to the vendor upon the start of the excursion; and tax may be added at that time.

This may include private properties for which there is no public access, such as Oropel and/or Finca Oropel. Expert guides will accompany you throughout. Chocolate Tasting & Culinary TourThis popular tour has been hosted by the same family for generations. Learn about cocoa in general, but also about this family's experience with cocoa right here in Sarapiqui. The tour culminates in an interactive presentation that will take you from the plant to the product, with active involvement and an abundance of taste tests along the way. Do not miss the gift shop. Finca OropelVisit a real and functioning Costa Rica farm, as well as the family that owns it. Meet their livestock, ride a horse, play with traditional Costa Rican toys and learn how to make tortillas. But most of all, take a moderately-strenuous hike alongside a river in the jungle bordering the farm to access a private swimming hole. Take a dip in the cool, clear water and feel like you've disappeared from the world as you know it. This tour includes a traditional Costa Rican soup and an alcoholic drink. Towels are provided for those who swim. This tour is exclusive to Oropel. Suitable for families.

Night WalksSee the jungle by night and encounter nocturnal animals. These on-property walks are ultra-adventurous, as you head into the rainforest in the dark with expert guides who carefully lead every step of the way. Proper footwear and bug protection is required. A walking stick is recommended. Can be adjusted in intensity for children and/or beginners. Please note required gear for this excursion includes natural bug repellant, long-sleeved shirts and pants, flashlight/headlamp, bottled water and hiking/rubber boots. Machetes are available to rent for a small fee for adult participants; walking sticks also available upon request.

Private Wildlife Photography InstructionInternational wildlife photographer Daniel Solis will lead up to six (6) people for up to 3.5 hours throughout his private jungle property. He will assist with tracking, identifying and photographing animals with direct, hands-on guidance and instruction custom-tailored to your level and needs. All participants can expect professional-grade captures by the end of this experience. Please note that no photography equipment is provided, and therefore must be brought. Suitable for beginners.

Rescue Dog CompanionOropel owners' passion is rehabilitating and rehoming local dogs in need. We are proud to welcome our guests to participate by "renting" any of our current fosters for a walk and/or hike at any time during the stay. At no cost, we will provide a leashed, well-socialized and gentle dog upon request. Should you fall in love with any of our pups, they are all available for adoption. It's the ultimate souvenir. But let's start with a walk, shall we? Suitable for everyone.
